Internship project at Jenevive Health, updating and refining chapters of a patient education guide for individuals living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS).
Project Overview
As part of my internship at Jenevive Health, I contributed to the HS Patient Guide eBook, a comprehensive educational resource created to support patients living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), a chronic skin condition.
The overall eBook layout and design system were already established. My responsibility was to work closely with the medical team to update chapters 19, 26, and 29 with new research and patient care information. This required carefully integrating technical medical updates into the existing layout while maintaining design consistency, readability, and brand alignment.

- Chapter Updates: Integrated new medical research and patient education material into Chapters 19, 26, and 29.
- Collaboration: Worked directly with Jenevive Health's medical team to ensure accuracy and clarity of updated content.
- Formatting & Layout: Preserved the established design style while updating headings, callouts, and page flow for readability.
- Quality Control: Reviewed and tested exported PDFs to ensure clean formatting and no visual errors.
Process
1. Review of Existing Layout
Familiarized myself with the pre-established eBook design system to ensure all updates would be consistent.
2. Collaboration with Medical Team
Received updated medical content for chapters 19, 26, and 29 and confirmed requirements with subject-matter experts.
3. Content Integration
Carefully placed new text and images into the InDesign layout, aligning typography, spacing, and callouts with brand guidelines.
4. Formatting Refinement
Corrected alignment issues, polished hierarchy, and ensured new content blended seamlessly into the existing layout.
5. Final Export & Delivery
Generated updated PDF chapters that were integrated into the official HS Patient Guide for patient use.

This project, completed during my internship at Jenevive Health, taught me the importance of precision, collaboration, and design consistency when working on medical publishing projects.
By collaborating directly with the medical team, I learned how to adapt complex, technical updates into a clear, patient-friendly format. The experience strengthened my skills in InDesign layout editing, teamwork, and attention to detail, while showing me how thoughtful design can make critical health information more accessible to patients.
